Marlowe Stoneware Vase
Hand-thrown, matte cream glaze.
A small, carefully edited boutique of ceramics, lighting, textiles and prints — made by South African hands, chosen to last well beyond a season.
Eight current pieces from the workroom floor — each made in small runs, photographed exactly as it ships.
Hand-thrown, matte cream glaze.
Linen shade, dimmable warm glow.
Pure brushed cotton, fringed edge.
Giclée on cotton rag, oak frame.
Reactive glaze, food-safe finish.
Stonewashed linen, feather inner.
Brushed brass, fabric flex cord.
Solid oak, hand-oiled finish.
Our most-loved vase, now in a deeper terracotta. Thrown one at a time on the wheel, finished in a soft matte glaze that reads warm in any light — no two are exactly alike.
Urban Designs began in a back-room workshop with one kiln and a stubborn belief: that the everyday objects in a home should be made well, by people, and meant to stay.
Today we curate a tight collection from a handful of South African makers we know by name — potters in the Cape, weavers in KwaZulu-Natal, woodworkers in the Highveld. We organise each release around the season's best work, photograph every piece ourselves, and never list anything we wouldn't live with.
The stoneware vase is even better in person — the glaze catches the afternoon light beautifully. It feels like a proper heirloom, not a high-street buy.
Ordered the linen cushions on a Tuesday and they arrived in Joburg by Thursday, beautifully wrapped. The quality is genuinely a cut above.
I love that everything is made here at home. The oak side table is solid, honest and exactly the warm neutral I'd hoped for. Will be back.
